Beneath the hood of the prototype was a work of art; a high-compression 250 ci engine that could delivered an impressive 325 horsepower. The AC Shelby Cobra was an amazing performer, topping out at 246 kph, with the ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 in a remarkable 4.2 seconds. When the Cobra was put into production the 260 ci engine remained, but the horsepower was revved down to approximately 260. Few of the original AC Shelby Cobras are still left since many have been upgraded to a mark 2 spec with a 189 ci engine.
The AC Shelby Cobra was in production from '62 to '67 and generated a mediocre response.
